Imageco Invites You to Learn about Sustainable Stands at Event Sustainability Live

For those of you that are attending Event Sustainability Live, creating sustainable change in the event industry will be a priority to you.

We’ve become aware of the wastefulness created by conferences, and we are exploring how we can change up our current practices to host and attend events that are less harmful to the environment.

Imageco are one of the UK’s leading companies in wide-format print and signage, bringing with us our creative flair and technical expertise to build showstopping event displays. Rethinking traditional print practices, we’ve created stands that are impactful visually, but not harmful to the planet.

Removing Harmful Materials

Traditionally to create an event stand, the materials applied would have included PVC, MDF, and fabric-based systems. Each of these pose an issue to the environment, as they are incredibly difficult to recycle. For example, PVC can take 450 years to decompose, and during this process harmful chemicals are released into the soil. To address this, we have sought out alternative materials that can deliver the same properties without the harmful side effects. Each of our exhibitions stands now utilises a cardboard fibreboard called Xanita and Swed FR  board. The composition of the material is predominately made from recycled cardboard and can be easily recycled easily at the end of its lifecycle.

Cardboard Engineering

To make a stable structure from cardboard, we apply our expertise in cardboard engineering. Through the use of CAD software, we have been able to conceptualise an event structure and design where each component of cardboard perfectly interlocks with another to avoid the use of any adhesives or excess materials. This way of working also optimises a stand for recycling, as often the likes of tape or glue limit recyclability. Aside from this, the use of the rigid fibreboard and an interlocking structure gives the stand incredibly structural integrity. We’ve even built matching furniture using the same techniques.

Prioritising Reusability

Aside from limiting our use of plastic-based materials in the industry, we need to focus on how we can reuse exhibition stands rather than continuing to create bespoke stands from scratch per event. To address this need, we have developed the ExhiBox solution, which is a reusable, eco-conscious, and affordable exhibition stand. Applying cardboard engineering with Xanita board, we have developed an exhibition base that can reused and even reskinned with new graphics for every event. Getting to this point has taken years in research and development, to build a structurally sound, completely cardboard exhibition stand that can be built by anyone. Whilst the stand is reusable, the graphics don’t need to remain the same, meaning you can continue to adapt the branding to the needs of the event and save the base for future use. To avoid using adhesives we clad the graphics (which are also printed on Xanita board) using magnets so that they can be easily replaced without damaging the base.

Colour Cardboard Creations

The purpose of an exhibition stand is to make a statement; to instantly capture the attention of the audience. Whilst the stands we create are made from cardboard, that doesn’t mean they look as plain as a cardboard box. They are bright, vibrant masterpieces that perfectly encapsulate a brand’s purpose, using a client’s core brand hues of course.

Your desire to switch to more sustainable alternatives, doesn’t need to come at the cost of your creative spark.

No Green Premium Here

You may have encountered the phrase ‘green premium’, which is the notion that sustainable alternatives come with a higher price point. However, we know that’s not the case, especially if you rethink your approach to events. Reusability by nature leads to lower costs as less materials and labour is required per event. Beyond this, we’ve looked to transform the exhibition stand model and introduce rentals, so attendees can rent a branded ExhiBox as and when they need it, and the base will go on to be used by others.

To learn more about how you can adapt your event stands to prioritise sustainability, visit our team at Stand F8 at the Event Sustainability Live, on the 20th and 21st of November. And yes, our stand will be made of cardboard!
